In a State of Mental Bondage - Media Inflicted

By Jacques Hugo

Oil on Canvas / 120 x 90 x 5 cm
  • "Left in a State of Mental bondage - Media Inflicted"
This portrait covers mental abuse on women known as media or worldly views of what women should be. Media has a tendency to sell this perfect image and set a standard that no women in this world can reach, and this can result in mental abuse that is more dangerous than any other.
Pink background - Symbolizes what the world portrays women to be, as these pink individuals even from a young age.
Hands - Symbolizes how media place women in this box of mental bondage. The results of this is women putting themselves through physical torture to fit the box.
Black contrast - Symbolizes that nedia reflects only bright beautiful pictures, but it has a very dark world behind it that only a few ever see.
Jacques was born in the Western Cape, schooled in a small town called Ceres. Jacques studied architecture in Bloemfontein and finally settled in Cape Town.
Since moving to Cape Town in 2017, his passion for art was reborn and he became more inspired than ever before.
He has great interest in painting portraits, figures and landscapes.
Jacques has experimented with various mediums and its possibilities but his prefered medium is oil on canvas.

Jacques proudly notes: "I believe that no artist can ever find him/herself as we are forever maturing in our skills and interests"

  • Art has always been a central part of Jacques life and as a young boy spent his childhood developing his technique and developing the patience that art demands.

Jaques studied architecture in Bloemfontein before finally settling in Cape Town to pursue his career as a professional artist. Specializing in portraits, figures and landscapes, Jacques paint primarily in oils using artist quality materials, but also did several of my secondary work in watercolour. Experimenting with mediums and its possibilities has been a big part of his development.
