The Only One
The Only One
Immerse yourself in the captivating essence of Anthony Gadd's artistic vision through "The Only One." This original mixed media masterpiece unveils an abstract African landscape adorned with the rich red hues of the earth and the enduring presence of acacia trees, inviting you to explore the untamed beauty of the natural world.
Anthony Gadd, driven by his perfectionist heart, meticulously selects each element of his compositions with utmost care. His style, characterized by its boldness, expressiveness, and a touch of spontaneity, embraces both careful planning and fortuitous moments that infuse his works with a vibrant energy. Gadd's mastery lies in his ability to encapsulate fleeting moments in time, infusing each piece with a blend of creativity, meticulous detail, and artistic freedom.
Guided by an unwavering fascination with the ever-changing landscapes of the sea and barren terrains, Gadd's art captures nature's dynamic shifts. His portrayal of light dancing on exposed rock formations and the ocean's transformative journey from tranquil turquoise to tempestuous blue embodies the essence of nature's cycles. "The Only One" stands as a testament to Gadd's artistry in capturing these transformative moments, inviting you to embrace the wild allure of the natural world.
Anthony Gadd has had a passion for art since his early school days in the Eastern Cape. A childhood spent roaming farms and interacting with wildlife gave him a deep respect for his environment, which he now translates into his South African landscape paintings.
A perfectionist at heart, Anthony Gadd chooses each subject's pose and composition with careful care and consideration. But whether capturing intimate portraits of South African wildlife, an unspoiled landscape, or the sea's wildness, his work leaves room for surprise and playfulness.
"My style has been described as loose, bold, and expressive. I treasure the 'happy accident' which brings gesture and freshness to each piece I create."
"I think I've matured from my original, more realistic style to become looser and more abstract." His approach includes doing most of his painting with four-inch brushes (the type used to paint a house), "so the brushwork has gesture and freshness."
Gadd has won the SA Society of Artists award for best-mixed media, holds permanent exhibitions in numerous galleries, has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, and is frequently commissioned. Gallery owners and art-lovers alike can't get enough of his unique and dynamic approach to art.
Anthony works from his studio in Cape Town, is married to artist and author Ann and has two children.
