'' Afternoon Shadows'' portrays a charming scene featuring a white cottage nestled in a vibrant field of flowers, set against a backdrop of majestic mountains lightly veiled by clouds. The simplicity of the house, adorned with a red roof and green shutters, adds to its allure. The flower-filled meadow bursts with a riot of colors—red, yellow, blue, and purple blooms. The towering mountains in the distance exude a sense of grandeur.

The artistic journey of Thea Darlow commenced in Gwanda, Zimbabwe, where her childhood on a farm was imbued with creativity. Guided by her mother, the renowned watercolor artist Joan, Thea developed a profound passion for painting. Her evolving expressionist style seamlessly blends various mediums, exploring the vast spectrum of color.

Under the mentorship of the esteemed South African artist Laura Wenman, Thea refined her artistic foundations, emphasizing drawing, observation, and perspective. She mastered the art of oil painting and broadened her skills in workshops led by Ryno Swart and Jenny Merritt, delving into expansive expressionist and abstract works enriched with acrylic paint.

Drawing inspiration from landscapes, trees, and rural African scenes, Thea weaves together photographs, memories, and sketches. The ancient Matobo Hills hold a special place in her heart, evoking a sense of the divine and the feminine.

Currently residing in Cape Town, Thea captures the graceful forms of Lions Head and the resilient Stony Pine trees braving the South Easter wind. Her artwork graces galleries and commissioned projects, with boundless inspiration drawn from the enchanting Table Mountain view, the surrounding landscapes, and the picturesque Winelands beneath the South African blue skies.
