Melanie Meyer is a South African visual artist based in Cape Town whose work explores light, landscape, memory, belonging and the subtle relationship between the inner and outer world. Her paintings invite stillness and reflection, often inhabiting the space between observation and imagination, where landscape becomes a vessel for presence, emotion and lived experience.

Unlike many professional artists, Melanie did not formally study fine art. Her early training was in architecture, landscape design and horticulture, disciplines that continue to influence her sensitivity to space, structure, rhythm and the natural environment.

Her path into art emerged unexpectedly during a period of personal loss, when a therapist encouraged her to attend both an art workshop and weekly art classes. What began as a creative exercise quickly became something far more significant. Working with paint on large canvases opened a new way of seeing and engaging with the world, and a new direction for her life.

Encouraged by her art teacher to begin exhibiting and selling her work, Melanie gradually developed a professional practice alongside her design business. As her artistic career grew, she made the decision to close her architectural practice and devote herself fully to life as a working artist.

Today her work is held in private collections throughout South Africa and internationally. A process-led artist at heart, she works across a range of media, allowing each body of work to determine its own visual language. Whether working in paint, sculpture, photography or mixed media, her practice remains rooted in curiosity, listening and the belief that meaningful images emerge through attention rather than control.

Through her paintings, workshops and retreats, Melanie continues to explore art as a way of encountering both the world and ourselves more deeply—creating works that invite viewers to pause, breathe and reconnect with the quiet presence often hidden within everyday life.
