The name "Echo of Strength" embodies the elephant's power, resilience, and enduring presence. It captures a sense of wisdom and tranquility, reflected in the animal's intense gaze and the dynamic brushstrokes. The name “Echo” resonates with the idea of the elephant’s remarkable memory and its lasting influence in the natural world, as elephants are widely seen as symbols of legacy, wisdom, and strength across cultures.

Artist Anthony Gadd, a true perfectionist, approaches each piece with careful consideration of pose and composition. “My style has been described as loose, bold, and expressive, which I tend to agree with. I treasure the ‘happy accident’ that brings gesture and freshness to each piece I create.” With a unique ability to blend power and sensitivity, Anthony captures fleeting moments, infusing each artwork with creativity, meticulous attention to detail, and artistic freedom.

Anthony is particularly inspired by the raw, shifting beauty of the sea and barren landscapes. His works depict stark contrasts—black patches of exposed rock dotting stretches of isolated white beaches, while the sea shifts from inviting turquoise to a deep, brooding blue. These dramatic transformations, etched in his mind, are vividly reimagined in his studio, capturing the powerful "changes in time" that define his art.

About Artist

Anthony Gadd has had a passion for art since his early school days in the Eastern Cape. A childhood spent roaming farms and interacting with wildlife gave him a deep respect for his environment, which he now translates into his South African landscape paintings.

A perfectionist at heart, Anthony Gadd chooses each subject's pose and composition carefully. But whether capturing intimate portraits of South African wildlife, an unspoiled landscape, or the sea's wildness, his work leaves room for surprise and playfulness. "My style has been described as loose, bold, and expressive. I treasure the 'happy accident' which brings gesture and freshness to each piece I create."

"I think I've matured from my original, more realistic style to become looser and more abstract." His approach includes doing most of his painting with four-inch brushes (the type used to paint a house) "so the brushwork has gesture and freshness."

Gadd has won the SA Society of Artists award for best-mixed media, holds permanent exhibitions in numerous galleries, has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, and is frequently commissioned. Gallery owners and art lovers can't get enough of his unique and dynamic approach to art.

Anthony works from his studio in Cape Town, is married to artist and author Ann, and has two children.
