On the Job | Dung Beetle near Ground

By Vincent Reid

  • Following the ever-growing popularity of Vincent’s highly detailed pencil sketches, 24 of his best works have been hand-selected to represent this Limited Edition Series. Signed and individually numbered, available on acid-free paper and canvas. Honouring the delicate quality and refinement of each original painting and using only the very best modern technology and materials available, this image has been reproduced using the giclée (zhee-clay) method – the highest quality reproduction of an original available and archival for at least 150 years.

An avid admirer and observer of nature and the outdoors, Vincent loves to spend time in the wild bushveld of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana to study and photograph the magic and splendour that is the African bush. These first-hand experiences provide creative inspiration and an abundance of source material for originating future new works.

“Pencil is my medium of choice because it is an extremely direct medium which satisfies my desire to express the deep contrasts and textures of my subjects. I aim to capture those moments which represent the essence of the African outdoor experience. I am inspired by the textures of nature and pencil allows me to incrementally and sometimes painstakingly carve those textures out of my paper. Each piece is a representation of my own personal experience and I always endeavour to experience everything that I draw.”

  • Raised on a farm in Zimbabwe, artist Vincent Reid has always been a close admirer and observer of the outdoors. After completing schooling in Harare he studied Interior Design and went on to work for 18 years in the Exhibition and Events industry as a designer and business owner before leaving the profession in 2011 to pursue a full-time career as an artist.

From the Artist: “Pencil is my medium of choice because it is an extremely direct medium which satisfies my desire to express the deep contrasts and textures of my subjects. I aim to capture those moments which represent the essence of the African outdoor experience. I am inspired by the textures of nature and pencil allows me to incrementally and sometimes painstakingly carve those textures out of my paper.”

Whenever possible artist Vincent Reid travels with his family to the wild bushveld of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana to study and photograph the magic and splendour that is the African bush. These first-hand experiences provide creative inspiration and an abundance of source material for originating future new pencil artworks.

In 2014 South African artist Vincent Reid was awarded Finalist in the U.K.’s David Shepherd Wildlife Conservation Artist of the Year competition.
